WHVACR @ HARDI December 2015

WHVACR met at Hardi Saturday December 5th 1-4pm at the JW Marriott in Orlando Florida 2015

Forward 15 and the Passing of the Gavel

Women in HVACR is proud to have been part of the 2015 HARDI National Conference- Forward 15.
WHVACR hosted a meeting and networking event on Saturday December 5th from 1pm to 4pm in conjunction with the HARDI National Conference in Orlando, FL at the JW Marriott Grande Lakes. This was the first time WHVACR has been part of the National HARDI conference and we are both pleased and honored to have been part of this year’s event. We look forward to our continued relationship with HARDI in 2016 and beyond.

Our event opened with a networking exercise and Ice Breaker designed to meet 10 new people and find out what they did before they became part of the HVACR industry. The Ice Breaker presented by Sandra Buttner, Communications Program Manager Johnson Controls, Inc. was a huge success and got the entire room talking to each other. “I learned things about women I have known for years that I never knew before. This was a great Ice Breaker” said Shawna Gazaway, from Berry Plastics. Johnson Controls gave away 2 gift cards to 2 lucky ladies who participated in this networking workshop.

Next in the meeting we had our 2015 “Go Vo-Tech Career Launch” Scholarship recipient say a few words about what being a Women in HVACR means to her and her career goals as she completes her education. Jessica Kushman was accompanied by her husband who is also in the HVACR business and is very proud of his wife Jessica. On behalf of Women in HVACR, Ruth Ann Davis, presented Jessica with a small token of our appreciation for her time, and we look forward to mentoring her as she continues her education.

Our meeting then progressed to an interactive session entitled the Changing Demographic within the HVACR Industry, with Renee Joseph, Vice President of Channel Sales & Marketing Operations at Johnson Controls Inc. During the session Renee introduced a new white paper she wrote entitled “Elevating the HVACR industry: Promoting exciting careers to diverse prospects can help address staffing shortages”*. During this interactive workshop, Renee shared some great content and ideas to take away and use in your daily life and in your careers as Women in HVACR.

As WHVACR wrapped up the meeting with the passing of the gavel – Ruth Ann Davis, WHVACR President, presented Patti Ellingson, Immediate Past President with a Crystal Gavel as she transitions off of the WHVACR Board of Directors after her 7 years of service. “I am honored to have served with such amazing women both past and present, and I know that the organization will continue to succeed and flourish under the new leadership” Patti said. Patti will continue to advocate for the HVACR industry and recruiting more women into the industry within organizations such as HARDI and Explore the Trades.
